Motel:
If you don't want to sleep right next to someone who forgot to take a shower
after riding all day, I've located some motel properties that should be conveniently
located and decently priced. I am listing two places in Sacramento, about
3 miles from my house, and one up in Auburn. So far I have no feedback from
anyone on rooms they've booked, so you all get the same information at this
point.
The two Sacramento locations are close together, and both right near the intersection
of Interstate 80 and Watt Avenue. Easy on and off, and a short, uncomplicated
ride to my house. I-80 is the main road connecting all three ride locations.
If you would like to stay in Sacramento, I recommend one of these:
Travelodge
(free breakfast, free local calls)
4325 Watt Avenue
Sacramento, CA 95660
Phone: 916-971-9440 Fax: 916-483-3836
$63.89 "bearly believable" rate for 10/17
Econo
Lodge (washer/dryer, continental breakfast, outdoor pool)
2912 Auburn Blvd. (just west of Watt Ave.)
$55 standard rate for 10/17 ($49.50 w/AAA)
Instead, you may prefer to stay in Auburn. This puts you right next door to
the Saturday ride, and closer to Downieville, but further from Fairfield.
Granite Bay is about the same distance from Auburn as it is from my house.
Most of Auburn's hotels/motels are along I-80 and in the same general area.
I think the Best Western is a pretty nice one, so I'll list that here:
Best Western
Golden Key (continental breakfast, heated poolcovered during
winter, spa, laundry, 12 and under free with adult)
13450 Lincoln Way
Auburn, CA 95603
Phone: 530-885-8611 Toll Free Reservations: 800-201-0121 Fax: 530-888-0319
Note: Call for rates. Most rooms are booked so their web site
reports it as full.
Floor and Yard:
Sorry, no more room at the inn. My house is in Carmichael, and the other
two belong to John Hooten and Jess Riegel, both in Granite Bay. It's about
a half hour drive between Carmichael and Granite Bay; not very convenient,
but cheap!
Currently the Riegel house will specialize in Trials: Ben Plotkin-Swing
Joey Cohn, and The Dan.
The Hooten house is housing John Childs, Scott Wallis, Jerry Gruss, Eric
Lancaster, Nathan and Beau Hoover, Grace Fleming, Bevan Gerber-Siff, and
Zach Jucha.
My house has what appears to be 14 people. Gulp. I cannot speak for the
other homeowners, but here are some things to be aware of as a floor or
yard sleeper:
- It may be crowded. At my house you may end up in the garage (you can count
unicycles to fall asleep).
- It may not be possible for us all to "eat in" due to lack of
table and chair space. I plan to make it possible to stop for something to
eat on the way to all rides. I'm sure we can manage eating in the house;
just want people to be aware of the possible situation.
- You won't be able to hog the bathroom or hot water!
- We will collect as much bedding, blankets, sleeping bags, etc., as we
can, but if you have your own it would be safer to bring it.
- If you stay at my house I will not make you look at photo albums or
watch videos unless you want to.
