Sly Park, Pollock Pines, CA
"Holy tree, Batman!" This tree (right) is a few miles outside Sly Park, in the El Dorado National Forest. Below, we see Brett Bymaster checking out some of the shady singletrack. The majority of the trail is in shade like this. At the back end of the lake is Hazel Creek, which
is fed by this waterfall (below right). At the top of the waterfall is
a big pipe about half a mile long, bringing water from the other side
of the mountain. All of this (including the lake) was built by the Bureau
of Reclamation in the 1940's or 50's.
Below is the beach where we'll have our contest,
riding from the right hand edge of the picture, down to the water, and
back up again. The rock is sorta smooth, but not real smooth!
