California Muni Weekend 2002 Detailed Directions Friday - Braille Trail ride We will meet at the Summit Store parking lot at 10am sharp. You can get snacks or drinks for the ride there. We'll caravan from there to Soquel Demonstration Forest which is about 7 miles further south from Route 17 on an increasingly curvy small road. Yahoo
Map and Driving Directions Friday and Saturday night: Bruce Bundy's house 320
Caledonia St From Inn-Cal in Santa Cruz: Go east up Ocean St about 100 feet to the first intersection. Turn right on Broadway. Take this about 0.3 miles and turn right on Caledonia. 320 is on the left, a couple of houses from the corner. You can ride this on your unicycle in about 5 minutes. Yahoo Map and Driving Directions Friday night after the ride we will make dinner at Bruce's house. If the ride ends around 5pm, we'll probably get started around 7, giving people time to go to the hotel and clean up. You'll have to contribute $5 or so for dinner and drinks. Saturday night after the ride, dinner is pretty much on your own, but we'll split up into groups and head to various Restaurants. My favorites:
and there are many more of course. After dinner, 8-9pm, come on over to Bruce's and soak in the hot tub, watch videos, and hang out until late. Saturday morning ride: De Laveaga Park 9am meeting time From Inn-Cal in Santa Cruz, go east up Ocean St 0.5 miles to Water Street. Turn right. Take the second left onto Market Street. Follow this along and it turns into Branchiforte Drive. It will curve around and go down a slight hill under very nice trees. Look for the De Laveaga Park entrance sign very soon on the right. Pull into the large parking lot and look for unicycles. You will have your choice of a Cross Country Race (2 courses, both 2-3 miles long with mostly single track, but one for experts only) or a fun ride to "Top of The World". Lunch will be pizza served here. Saturday afternoon ride: Forest of Nisene Marks, AptosFrom De Laveaga Park in Santa Cruz, go back down Branchiforte to Goss Ave. Turn left and go one block - turn right on N. Branchiforte. Cross over the freeway and turn left on Fairmount Ave. Turn left at the end onto the onramp for Route 1 headed South. Stay on the freeway for 5.1 miles, exiting at State Park Drive in Aptos. Make a left from the ramp onto State Park Dr, go over the freeway and make the first left onto a small street called Old Diminion Court. We will be parking right at this intersection rather than in the Safeway parking lot across the street because it gets crowded and the merchants get really pissed off when they see us parking to go on rides in the lot. Sunday morning Trials Competition at Frederick Street Park
From Inn-Cal, go east up Ocean Street about 100 feet and turn right on Broadway. Take Broadway about 1 mile, all the way to Frederick Street. Turn right and in about 0.3 miles, the park will be on your right. Meet at the back side of the park at 9:am. We will have a brief workshop given by Kris with an explanation of the course, and the competition will be from 9:30 to 11am. Sunday Mid-day Sunday Afternoon There are alternate ways to get through Santa Cruz from the one described by Yahoo, such as: From Seabright Brewery, go up Seabright Ave to Broadway. Turn left and go past Inn-Cal, over the river onto Laurel Street, up to Mission and turn left. Turn right on Bay St, and continue up to the light at Empire Grade (the edge of UCSC). Turn right here and go to the West Campus Entrance. Turn right through the entrance station and make the first right turn to the "West Remote Parking Lot". We will meet there for the afternoon ride to the famous Mailboxes descent. Detailed
